This is cymatics in its purest form: vibrations create standing patterns on a surface. At certain frequencies the nodal lines become crisp and grains migrate into the calm zones. For me it’s a neat example of physics becoming visual - resonances leave clear signatures.

How it works (in short)

A speaker or shaker drives a surface or fluid. At resonant frequencies, standing waves form, matter collects near nodes/antinodes and reveals the pattern.
